A Personal Note To You : Welcome.

 Dear Friends,
radha
Welcome to my world. I want to offer you practical solutions for everyday cooking. Indian cooking becomes very time consuming and tiring if the whole process is not planned properly. Having a well stocked pantry, fresh vegetables in the refrigerator, and my ‘Quick’ menus will definitely help you in making nourishing meals. You can print off the menus and also check on my cooking videos to make sure you are headed the right way. You are welcome to ask me questions regarding the dishes and I will try to respond as promptly as possible. My sincere effort is to make sure that you enjoy more fresh, healthy and hearty home made meals that nourish your body as well as your soul. You are what you eat, so eat the freshest possible food that you made by yourself.

Many of you have been asking me for a weight loss diet and all I can tell you is the only weight loss diet would be the one in which you use your common sense. One cannot lose weight eating burgers and french fries. In my sincere effort to help you, I am presenting Radha’s Fit as a way of introducing some delicious recipes and drinks. Many of these recipes are based on Ayurveda, ancient Indian Medicine. Ayurveda encourages ‘Whole Healing’ rather than just focusing on one particular pill for a particular disease. Being stress free, enjoying an active physical life (not regretting and fretting every second on those weight loss machines), surrounding oneself with loving friends and family members, having a pet, good sleep patterns will totally help you when you are making right choices in food. Radha’s Fit is the diet I have been experimenting by myself. Most of those recipes are already there in the family, I’m just adding a new twist to it and adapting it to today’s modern lifestyle.

I feel that most of us are fortunate enough to pick and choose in our diets. There are too many people dying of starvation and here we are with all these food choices to make. We are very priviledged and pampered according to me. I am grateful for every meal I eat, I try my level best never to waste anything, and I recycle as much as possible. Keep checking my ‘Food Related Articles’ in the ‘Category’ section of my blog for all my experiences with food. The information and tips there may help you.

Finally, remember that I care for you and will always be there for you through my blog, Face Book, Twitter, and my videos. If my efforts have helped you even in a miniscule way, then I will consider all my time as a good investment. Do read the ‘About’ section for information.

Here’s to good health and Eat to be Strong!

Yours,
Radha Rayasam.

P.S:

Many of you are thinking that the people on Face Book are my personal friends or relatives. I have specifically opened my FB account only for my blog readers and You Tube viewers. I have not included any family members or personal friends there. If anybody from the FB friend circle approaches you for friendship, do not feel obligated to accept as they are in no way related to me. Be assured, I’ve never met any one of them till date. This has become a recent concern and some of you have sent me emails wondering if a particular FB friend is in any way related to me or my personal best friend. Just because I’m very friendly and chatty does not mean the person I’m talking to is my very close chum.

I’d like to remind you once again that if you post any material that I find offensive, I’ll remove it. It’s my wall and it’s my job to keep it clean. I do not owe you an explanation of any sort. Please don’t litter my wall with objectionable material. There is zero tolerance for flirting and all your objectionable comments will be removed under my ‘photos’ section. I’m sharing a few snaps from my everyday life, and also posted a few pictures of my husband and children. Be kind and respectful.

For the rest of my FB friends already there, thank you each and every one of you for joining me on my culinary journey. Your love and encouragement lights up my day, each and every day. Thank you once again.

Very outstanding work .. being a vagan is not easy . thanks for the creative cooking ideas

I have a lot of respect for Vegans, it takes a lot of discipline. I try my best to stick to being a vegan with an occasional chai, but most often I find myself using dairy products. Especially Ghee. But you can easily use Organic Sesame oil to reap similar benefits. Indian food is awesome when it comes to supporting Vegans and Vegetarians.

Thank you for your comments, hope to see you more here Anu.

Good Post Radha. Both on the control over what’s written on your wall, and more importantly, on the subject of weight loss.

Yes, common sense is the bottom line of all diets. Unfortunately, when that common sense has been suppressed or hijacked by the food companies (beverage, snack, fast food, junk food, etc.), and for those who do not understand the relationship between what they eat and what they do, it’s difficult to apply common sense. Self Control, Self Discipline and Awareness are what people also need. But when the mind is hijacked, they lose these two things and are powerless to do anything about the cravings for foods that are destroying them.

The secret to diet is starts with understanding foods and their chemical actions on, and reaction from, one’s brain and the body. Once they understand this relationship, they can regain control over their minds, become aware of things they are ingesting or consuming, exert self control andself discipline, and gradually regain sanity over what and how much they eat. It begins a cycle of restoring healthy ways and healthy living, and dropping weight.

Most people do not realize that the sugar (fructose) in Coke addicts their minds to it. The salt in it, which has been hidden by the heavy amount of sugar, and the caffeine which is a diuretic causes one to lose valuable minerals from the body, and the combined effect is for one to become even more thirsty and the body to seek more food to replenish the minerals and nutrients. The lack of minerals and nutrients that have been taken out of the food keeps the body perpetually hungry, and thirsty, consuming fructose (a poison), caffeine (diuretic), salt and fat devoid of any nutrients.

Hi Radha!
Could please help me with the name of Dry Red chillies which are put in Sambar Powder. The Indian store in my city carries a number of varieties and I am not sure which one to buy.
Thanks.

Dear Namrata,

I buy the one that is bright red in color, not very brown or black looking ones. I have had more luck in Mexican Grocery shops and the color and taste of their red chilies are superior. In the Indian grocery store I’ve had good experience using Swad brand. Seems like a superior quality.

Hi Radha,
Suddenly came across your chef channel on youtube, and its wonderful.Hope you had taken part in Masterchef in India, pankaj would have run for her money.Well your way of presentation is really good and I really like the ‘Phata Phat’ Sambar. It added one more tool to my wife’s experimentation list though.
regards
Shreedhar

Hi Radha,
I tried yr poori aloo kizhangu.Came out excellent.thanks once again. Will try yr other recipes and post my feedback.

I was going through Tomato rice recipe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdgVbfs5TGw&feature=related) how many of these ingredients are optional? I don’t have many of these ingredients at home :( I thought it is easy; looks to me tough because of many ingredients. I don’t find much time to cook; but i want a simple tomato rice recipe with compromise in # of ingredients ofcoz this makes me to compromise on taste, but with limited time i spend for cooking, i am requesting easiest one, could you please add that recipe to youtube if possible. Am a vegetarian, this blog would be my reference..Just found it today..

If you are what you eat, then i am fast, easy and cheap
;)
